Also called accountability by Kent Beck. There is a great video talk presenting this subject.

What about sharing knowledge and helping others? Doesn't taking responsibility include this as well?

Having been a professional scientist, I can tell you that an employment contract can explicitly state that an employer does not need to pay you and you still need to do a good job.
